People were laughing, and fun was in demand.
They were eating and drinking without any care,
Not knowing that soon the Lord Jesus’d be there.
At last they grew tired and all went to bed,
While dreams of good times danced through every head.
My friends and I lingered for one final nightcap,
Then drifted to sleep for a long, peaceful nap.
When out of my window there rose such a clatter,
I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter.
To the window I flew in a startled flash,
Pulled back the curtain and threw up the sash.
And what to my wondering eyes should appear—
Could it be? Would it be? Yes… it was clear.
With a trumpet and shout the Lord called His elect home…
But wait—am I still here? Why am I not gone?
My friend, there’s a lesson for all who will hear:
Get right with Jesus now—don’t wait year after year.
Many say “Not today, I’ll repent someday,”
But salvation’s too precious to gamble away.
For Jesus will return like a thief in the night,
And there’ll be no time left then to get right.
