The Law of Sowing and Reaping

Sermon Outline: “The Law of Sowing and Reaping”

  • Bible Text: Galatians 6:7; 2 Corinthians 9:6; Luke 6:38

  • Theme: What we sow in life—whether good or bad—always brings a harvest.

  • Big Idea: God’s law of sowing and reaping is inescapable. Sow sparingly and reap sparingly, sow abundantly and reap abundantly

1. The Rule of Sowing and Reaping (Galatians 6:7)

  • Life is like an echo—what you give comes back.

  • The harvest never comes at planting time, but it always comes.

  • The harvest is greater than the seed planted.

  • Applies to both lost and saved—every soul reaps what is sown.

2. Reason #1 – God Will Not Be Mocked (Galatians 6:7b)

  • He cannot be humiliated, teased, or scoffed at.

  • Judgment may be delayed but never denied.

  • Example: disrespecting parents brings shortened days.

  • Sow to the flesh → reap corruption.

3. Reason #2 – Sparing Seeds Bring a Small Harvest (2 Corinthians 9:6a)

  • If you sow little, you reap little.

  • Christianity cannot be just Sunday attendance and small offerings.

  • Christians who do little for God often reap meager blessings.

  • Sow more, reap more—God multiplies what you give.

4. Reason #3 – Bountiful Seeds Bring a Bountiful Harvest (2 Corinthians 9:6b)

  • God owns the cattle on a thousand hills—He rewards abundantly.

  • Planting generously includes prayer, witness, giving, and godly living.

  • Illustration: one ear of corn → hundreds more when planted.

  • Spiritual seeds (love, joy, peace, kindness, etc.) bring lasting fruit.

5. Reason #4 – God Loves a Cheerful Giver (2 Corinthians 9:7)

  • A cheerful giver receives a little something extra from God.

  • Cheerful givers live with confidence in God’s provision.

  • Story of the farmer: “I shovel into God’s bin, He shovels back—He’s got a bigger shovel.”

  • Sow with joy and generosity, not grudgingly

Life is like planting corn: eat one ear today and it’s gone; plant it, and you multiply your harvest many times over. The same is true spiritually.
