Bible Text: 1 Corinthians 3:9-15; Hebrews 9:27; 2 Corinthians 5:10
Theme: Every person must face death and the judgment seat of Christ—these two appointments determine eternity.
Big Idea: Since death is certain and judgment is coming, we must live faithfully now to lay up eternal treasure in heaven.
1. The Purpose of the Church – 1 Corinthians 3:9
-
Believers are laborers together with God.
-
The goal: seek and save the lost, shine as lights in a dark world.
-
Unity in labor keeps the devil from gaining a foothold.
-
Alliterated Point: Labor, Light, Loyalty.
2. The Foundation of the Church – 1 Corinthians 3:10-11
-
Jesus Christ is the only true foundation.
-
Without Christ at the center, it is not His church.
-
Churches fail when they lose unity or exaltation of Christ.
-
Alliterated Point: Christ, Cornerstone, Centrality.
3. The Goal of the Worker – 1 Corinthians 3:12-13
-
Every Christian’s works will be tested by fire.
-
Two categories:
-
Gold, Silver, Precious Stones → pure acts done for Christ’s glory.
-
Wood, Hay, Stubble → self-serving acts that will burn away.
-
-
Even small deeds (cup of water in Jesus’ name) will be rewarded.
-
Alliterated Point: Rewarded Work vs. Wasted Work.
4. The Faithfulness of God – 1 Corinthians 3:14-15
-
Even if works are burned, the believer will still be saved.
-
Heaven itself is the greatest reward, secured by the blood of Christ.
-
The first works: salvation and baptism—secure entry into eternity.
-
Alliterated Point: Promise, Preservation, Paradise.
