Jesus, the anchor that holds

Sermon Outline: “Some Things Never Change”

Text: Hebrews 13:8 – “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever.”

Theme Statement: The world changes constantly, but there are eternal truths that never change — and on these we can build our lives.

Big Idea: Everything around us may change, but Jesus never changes — and that gives us hope, stability, and salvation.

1. The Steadfast Savior (Hebrews 13:8–9)

  • Society shifts, doctrines drift, but Jesus remains unchanging.

  • His promises never fail, His power never weakens, His presence never departs.

  • He is steady, unwavering, and unchanging through all time.

  • Build your life on the Rock, not on the shifting sands of culture.

2. The Shedding of Blood (Hebrews 9:22)

  • “Without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness.”

  • From Adam to the last man saved, all redemption comes by blood.

  • Old Testament sacrifices (bulls, rams, goats) pointed to Christ’s perfect sacrifice.

  • Only the blood of Jesus cleanses sin once for all.

  • Hymn reminder: “What can wash away my sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus.”

3. The Sure Love of God (Romans 8:38–39)

  • Nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus.

  • God does not need us, but He loves us unconditionally.

  • Our purpose in life is to fellowship with Him.

  • His love is just and righteous — no favoritism, no partiality.

  • His love will never change, even if the world continues for thousands of years.

4. The Salvation that’s Free (Romans 5:18)

  • Salvation is God’s gift — free, unearned, undeserved.

  • No pope, preacher, or priest controls forgiveness — only Jesus saves.

  • Thief on the cross: saved by faith alone, not works or rituals.

  • Salvation is by grace through faith, not good deeds or offerings.

  • Good works follow salvation, but they do not produce it.

  • Salvation is free for all who call on the Lord — and that will never change.

5. The Subtle Serpent (John 10:10 – 1 Peter 5:8)

  • Satan has not changed — still a liar, deceiver, destroyer.

  • He steals, kills, and destroys, working subtly and deceptively.

  • Even angels call on the Lord’s name to rebuke him.

  • He will take you further than you want to go, keep you longer than you want to stay, and cost you more than you want to pay.

  • James 4:7 — “Submit to God, resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

6. The Sure Judgment (Hebrews 9:27)

  • Death is certain, judgment is coming for all.

  • Two types of judgment:

    • The Judgment Seat of Christ (for believers).

    • The Great White Throne Judgment (for the lost).

  • Examples:

    • Rich man in Luke 16 — gained the world, lost his soul.

    • Farmer in Luke 12 — laid up treasure on earth, but not in heaven.

  • Two possible verdicts:

    • “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.”

    • Or, “Depart from Me, I never knew you.”

Conclusion / Invitation

  • Life is fragile — we are all “hanging by a thread.”

  • Tomorrow is not promised.

  • Some sitting here today may not be here next year, next month, or even tomorrow.

  • Be obedient to Christ today.

  • The only safe preparation for death and judgment is to trust in Jesus Christ as Savior.
